At farewell ceremony for Orkhan Djemal, people describe his work in hot spots

At the farewell ceremony for Orkhan Djemal, who was killed in the Central African Republic (CAR), his friends said that when working in hot spots, the journalist was not afraid to ask uncomfortable questions to armed people and was ready to die. The friends called Orkhan Djemal a man of action, always ready to help.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the farewell ceremony for journalist Orkhan Djemal was held at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque. The journalist was killed in the CAR together with cameraman Kirill Radchenko, and film director Alexander Rastorguev when they worked on a documentary film.

Journalist Marat Saichenko described his trips with Orkhan Djemal to Libya.

"He was not afraid to ask uncomfortable questions to armed Islamists and thus evoked their desire to take submachine guns ... He was sincerely concerned over what was happening in the Muslim world," said Marat Saichenko.

Orkhan Djemal was ready to blow himself up, said Afanasy Argerakis, a photo correspondent from Greece, who also visited Libya together with the journalist.

"Being a Muslim, he did not seek death, but he was always ready for it," added Ikramutdin, a friend of Orkhan Djemal from Dagestan.

Gulnar Djemal, a widow of the Orkhan Djemal's father, said the killed journalist was not interested in money. "He spent all his money on his relatives and friends, to help people. Orkhan donated many thousands of US dollars that he saved to buy a car to poet and translator Ilya Kormiltsev, who suffered from cancer," the woman said.
