Resident of Grozny sentenced for possessing ammunition

In Grozny, the court has found a local resident guilty of illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of ammunition and sentenced him to 1.5 years of imprisonment.

According to investigators, the defendant bought 145 rounds for a gun, which he kept at his place of residence. The man was detained by policemen during operational activities, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today at the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya.

The man was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of ammunition). On July 18, the Zavodskoy District Court of Grozny sentenced the defendant to 1.5 years of imprisonment.

The Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya has noted that the maximum punishment provided for by Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is up to four years of imprisonment.

According to the Chechen law enforcement bodies, in the first quarter of 2018, 25 criminal cases were instituted in Chechnya on the facts of illegal acquisition, storage, sale, and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
