Court in Baku ignores Sadygov's statement about torture

The Baku Court of Appeal has denied a complaint against the arrest of journalist Afghan Sadygov, who had stated that law enforcers beat him up, his wife has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the journalist Afghan Sadygov associated his arrest with his criticism of the authorities on the Facebook. Officially, Sadygov was arrested for 30 days for petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police.

"Afghan said that he had signed confessions, because they began beating him up. According to his words, they made him to understand that he was arrested because of his criticism of the authorities on the Facebook," said the wife.

The court disregarded the journalist's statement.

Djavad Djavadov, Afghan's advocate, has treated the judgement as unfair. The defence intends to file a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and obtain compensation for the journalist.
