Court arrests Masis Mayor and his brother for attacking Pashinyan's supporters

David Ambartsumyan, the Mayor of the city of Masis, and his brother Gor Ambartsumyan were arrested on June 6 within the case of an attack on protesters in Yerevan, the Armenian Investigating Committee has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 22, during oppositional protest actions in Yerevan, a group of masked men attacked Nikol Pashinyan's supporters. The latter asserted that policemen were inactive. On June 1, David Ambartsumyan and his deputy Karen Oganyan were charged with organizing and participating in mass riots. On the following day, the court decided to release them under recognizance not to leave the place.

On July 6, David Atanesyan, an advocate of David Ambartsumyan, stated, in his comments on the arrest of his client, that two criminal cases against the Masis Mayor were combined into one, adding that the first case dealt with the attack on participants of the protest held in the vicinity of the villages of Ayianist and Ovtashat, while the second one – with the riots in Erebuni, an administrative district of Yerevan.

In her comment to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, Sona Truzyan, an adviser to the head of the Investigating Committee of Armenia, said that the court had also ruled to arrest Gor Ambartsumyan, David's brother.
