Lawyer from Cherkessk reports threats received from law enforcers

Law enforcers threatened to punish the lawyer Kemal Kuscheterov, who had reported that he was beaten up during a search in Cherkessk, so that other lawyers did not interfere with their work, Kemal Kuscheterov and his colleague have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Kuscheterov had stated that he was beaten in the evening on July 3, when he arrived at the address of his client, Anatoly Kaznacheev, where some investigatory actions were conducted. According to Kemal, Kaznacheev's relatives hired him, stating that law enforcers had planted ammunition on Anatoly.

During the conflict with law enforcers, Kuscheterov suffered traumas, which are assessed as minor harm to his health, said the victim himself referring to the medical conclusion.

"I submitted an application to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) yesterday [on July 4]; and today [July 5], I've lodged another one to the Prosecutor's Office," Kuscheterov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on July 5.

"We'll insist on bringing operative agents to liability; they told me that my example would be a lesson for all the lawyers in the region. The whole lawyers' community is determined to go to the end," Mr Kuscheterov has stated, adding that he treats the actions of law enforcers against his client Anatoly Kaznacheev during the search of his home on July 3 as unjustified.

"My client is a Category II; he had been never before prosecuted; he is an elderly man. They planted ammunition on him and made a search; when I arrived. They probably planned to find something else, and I prevented them by my visit. I see no other reason for such inadequate actions," the lawyer said.
