Blast kills combat engineer

An explosion occurred on the outskirts of Khasavyurt, Dagestan, at 7.30 this morning. The bomb killed Rodion Kalashnikov, a dog trainer and a combat engineer with a mobile unit of Russia's Internal Affairs Ministry, according to preliminary information. The incident occurred while Rodion was examining the area for explosive devices. He triggered a bomb buried by the roadside.

Rodion Kalashnikov, b. 1978, arrived in Dagestan from Kalach-on-Don, Volgograd region.
