Resident of Georgia detained on South-Ossetian border

Giorgi Kepashvili, a resident of the Gori District, was detained by the South Ossetian side on a charge of illegally crossing the border, the Georgian Service of State Security (SSS) reports.

23-year-old Giorgi Kepashvili lives in the near-border village of Plavi, the Georgian SSS informs.

The incident was reported to the EU Monitoring Mission and a hotline was activated, the "InterPressNews" reports with reference to the Georgian SSS.

The information about the detention of the Georgian citizen was confirmed by the Georgian State Security Service and the First Channel of the Georgian TV.

The time of Giorgi Kepashvili's detention is not reported.

Earlier, activists who have organized patrolling near the village of Kirbali along the line of delimitation with South Ossetia, have reported regular detentions of Georgian residents at the border. According to the activists, border guards set ambushes and kidnap people.
