Armenian authorities: resonant murder not related to protests against Serzh Sargsyan

On April 23, Nver Ovannisyan, the deputy chairman of the "Erkrapah" Volunteer Union, died in the hospital of the Armenian city of Vagarshapat of stab wounds. The man was wounded after protests against the election of Serzh Sargsyan the Prime Minister of Armenia, the city authorities reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 23, Serzh Sargsyan, a former President, who had been elected by the MPs to the post of Prime Minister only six days before, announced his resignation. He explained that he was fulfilling the opposition's demand.

46-year-old Nver Ovannisyan was a participant of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Law enforcers started an investigation into a criminal case instituted under Article 104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (murder), the "Sputnik Armenia" reports today.

Nver Ovannisyan died during the surgery, the "News.am" reports.

Mariam Pogosyan, an official from the press service of the City Mayoralty, denied the version disseminated by the media, according to which Nver Ovannisyan was wounded by a participant of a protest action against the election of Serzh Sargsyan the Prime Minister.

According to Mariam Pogosyan, the incident occurred several hours after the Serzh Sargsyan's resignation, when there were no rallies in the city, the newspaper reports today.
