Three Georgian warders detained on charge of torturing prisoners

A former director of the prison No. 6 in Rustavi and two of his former subordinates are detained on the charge of inhuman treatment of prisoners in 2006, the Georgian General Prosecutor's Office reports.

The defendants are charged of humiliating or inhuman treatment committed by an employee using official position against a detainee or a person restricted in freedom in other way.

According to investigators, in September-August 2006, the defendants developed their rules of punishment and intimidation of prisoners in the Rustavi prison, treated them humiliatingly, took away their personal hygiene items and bed sheets, forced prisoners to get undressed and placed them to a punishment cell for a long time. The above actions were committed regularly and were used to intimidate the prisoners.

In November 2017, three former employees of the prison No. 6 in Rustavi were detained in the case. They pleaded guilty and cooperate with investigators, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports with reference to the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office.
