Kadyrov's nephew appointed deputy head of Kurchaloi District

Khamzat Kadyrov, a 21-year-old nephew of the head of Chechnya, a son of Ramzan Kadyrov's elder brother Zelimkhan, who died in 2004, was appointed deputy head of the administration of the Kurchaloi District of Chechnya. The local public figures interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe that by appointing relatives for high positions, Kadyrov strengthens his personal rule.

Khamzat Kadyrov took up his duties on April 7, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the office of the head and government of Chechnya.

Activists of local NGOs believe that Khamzat's appointment is a continuation of Ramzan Kadyrov's policy of appointing his closest relatives to republic's key administrative posts.

"We see him (Kadyrov) giving more or less significant posts to his relatives, despite their relatively young age, lack of professionalism and life experience. It's sooner an indication of his lack of confidence in the future and distrust in his retinue. Kadyrov prefers to rely solely on his clan, not on the notorious 'Kadyrov's team'," an NGO activist named Aslambek told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
