Volcano erupts in capital of Azerbaijan

An eruption of the Ayrantoken mud volcano occurred in the territory of Garadag District of Baku, no one was injured, reported the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources for Azerbaijan.

"The eruption of the Ayrantoken mud volcano lasted about seven minutes and was accompanied by a flame column. The estimated height of the fire flame was 100-150 meters. The products of the eruption spread over an area of about 2 hectares, and their thickness reaches from 0.3 to 1.2 meters. Radial cracks formed in the territory of the mud volcano," the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources reported on March 30.

The surroundings of the mud volcano are not inhabited. The Ayrantoken mud volcano is located on the territory of the state reserve for the group of mud volcanoes of Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.
