Azeri activists report Fikret Guseinli's attempted detention in Kiev

Men in civilian clothes tried to detain Azerbaijani journalist Fikret Guseinli in Kiev, but he jumped out of the window and escaped, activists said. The Institute for Peace and Democracy (IPD) has called on to stop persecuting Guseinli.

Fikret Guseinli (Guseinov), a Dutch citizen, was detained on October 14, 2017, in the Kiev Airport, because Azerbaijani law enforcers had put him on the international wanted list on charges of fraud and illegal border crossing. However, on February 13, the Kiev Court of Appeal stopped the case on Guseinli's extradition.

After the above failed detention attempt, law enforcers are now searching for Guseinli in Kiev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports referring to the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Ukraine.

According to the source, on March 5, law enforcers tried to detain Guseinli in his rented apartment in Kiev.

"The attempt to kidnap Guseinov in Kiev will be widely discussed at the sessions of the PACE, OSCE, and in the European Parliament," Leyla Yunus, Director of the IPD, has stated.

Earlier, Alesker Mamedli, a member of the Azerbaijani "Civil Society Platform", said that Guseinli fled from Azerbaijan, as he was subjected to violence.
