Policemen detain 10 people near the Salafi mosque in Makhachkala

All those detained after the Friday prayer were released after the check, the spokesman of the Dagestani MIA has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that parishioners of the Salafi mosque located in General Omarov (former Hungarian Warriors) Street in Makhachkala are regularly detained during police raids, held on Fridays. Rights defenders treat detentions as a form of pressure on the Salafi congregation in Dagestan and a catalyst for the radicalization of the believers.

On January 5, law enforcers again examined and detained people at the mosque, eyewitnesses told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The police stopped not only pedestrians, but also drivers, offering them to go to the police station, the journalist Idris Yusupov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ten people were taken to the police station and released after checks, the MIA spokesman said.
