CEC accepts Aina Gamzatova's documents to run for presidency

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia has started to consider the documents submitted by Aina Gamzatova, a wife of the Mufti of Dagestan. The woman decided to run for presidency as a self-nominated candidate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 25, Aina Gamzatova, the editor-in-chief of the "Islam" magazine and the wife of the Mufti of Dagestan, announced her decision to run for presidency in the March 2018 election.

The CEC of Russia accepted the Aina Gamzatova's documents of today, on January 1. "The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation has accepted the documents submitted by Aina Gamzatova as part of the procedure for nominating as a presidential candidate. Aina Gamzatova has put forward her candidacy as self-nomination," the Russian CEC's website reports.

A self-nominated candidate should submit to the CEC an application for registration of an initiative group, a statement of consent to run, documentary evidence of biographical data, as well as information on his or her material situation, including income and expenditures, accounts, deposits and securities. To register as a candidate, a self-promoter should collect at least 300,000 signatures of voters in his or her support and any region cannot present more than 7500 signatures, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
