US Congressman demands sanctions against Georgian authorities

The interests of American investors in Georgia have not been taken into account; and this should be answered in the form of US sanctions against Georgian authorities, the Congressman Steve Russell has stated. Irakli Kiknavelidze, a Georgian oppositionist, has treated Russell's claims as an alarm signal.

The Congressman has demanded to cancel visas for Georgian ministers, freeze their bank accounts and ban them from entering the USA. The bill on sanctions has already been registered at the Congress.

Steve Russell seeks to impose sanctions for violations of investors' rights in Georgia – of the Companies "Georgian Manganese", "Philip Morris" and "Frontera", the "Georgia-Online" reports.

According to the edition, the Congressman is dissatisfied with the fact that a Georgia crisis manager was introduced into the "Georgian Manganese", while the "Philip Morris" and "Frontera" failed to receive licenses.

Nino Kalandadze, a member of the Political Council of the United National Movement (UNM), said on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel that the Congressman's initiative indicates that "the Georgia's Govt is not advancing in the right direction."
