Historians announce reissue of eight-volume publication on Caucasian War

On December 19, the Moscow International University of International Relations (known as MGIMO) hosted a scientific and practical seminar on the topic "Nikolai Fyodorovich Dubrovin – a Classic of Russian Caucasus Studies" dedicated to the historian's jubilee. December 8 is the 180th anniversary of his birth.

In his works, Nikolai Dubrovin reported unique information about the Caucasian War, but after the 1917 revolution, he was undeservedly forgotten, the participants of the seminar told the "Caucasian Knot".

Beskrovny, a military historian, wrote about Dubrovin that he occupies a special place among military historians of the second half of the 19th century, not adhering to any of the trends observed in the military history of that time, Professor Vladimir Degoev from the MGIMO, Doctor of History, said at the seminar.

"Dubrovin was a sort of apophasis. For many decades during the Soviet period, his works, including his main book 'The History of the War and Russians' Dominance in the Caucasus', were not reprinted, but nevertheless the facts and materials gathered and narrated for the first time by Dubrovin were used often, but without reference to him," Professor Degoev has explained.

According to his story, now the re-issue of the 8-volume history of the Caucasian War, written by Dubrovin is "at the final stage."
