South Ossetia complains about shelling from Georgian side

Shooting from the territory of Georgia has been fixed at the border; such cases lead to conflict escalation, the spokesman of South Ossetia has stated at the meeting in Ergneti.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that meetings of representatives of Georgia and South Ossetia within the format of the Mechanisms for the Prevention and Response to Incidents (MPRI) are taking place in the pre-border village of Ergneti on the monthly basis.

Recently, the border sign installed in the vicinity of the dwelling settlements of Khetagurovo and Nikozi was shelled, Murat Djioev, the plenipotentiary of South-Ossetian President, has stated today at the meeting in Ergneti, without specifying the day when the sign was damaged.

According to his story, the South-Ossetian party has also drawn the attention of the European Union's Monitoring Mission to appearance of armed people in the border areas. "Such facts are inadmissible, since they can aggravate the situation," the media quote Mr Djioev as saying.

At the same time, according to his data, residents of Georgia are now less often violating the border. Over the time since the last meeting, there have been only two such cases, Murat Djioev has noted. "The infringers are already at large," he has added.
