Killers of Gasanguseinov brothers-shepherds unlikely to be ever caught, relatives assert

Relatives of the killed shepherds believe the persons guilty of killing the Gasanguseinov brothers from the Dagestani village of Goor-Khindakh will not be brought to justice. Residents of the village have noted that they still live in an atmosphere of fear.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that investigators instituted a criminal case on the murder of the Gasanguseinov brothers.

At night on August 24, 2016, 17-year-old Nabi and 19-year-old Gasangusein Gasanguseinov brothers were killed in the Shamil District. Law enforcers claimed the deceased brothers were members of the "Shamil" militant grouping and fired at them. Fellow villagers of the Gasanguseinov brothers said the guys had no contacts with militants.

Djambulat Gasanov, the leader of the human rights organization "Law and Justice", stated that the brothers "had been killed by law enforcers." However, according to the investigators, "the murder was committed by unidentified persons."

Djambulat Gasanov has also said that, according to the results of the forensic examination, "bullets and cartridges discovered at the place of the murder did not match the weapons allegedly found with the brothers."

Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the shepherds, believes "his children were killed deliberately," since they were "ordinary poor people."

"No one will return my killed children, but I will not stop my struggle for the justice," the man emphasized.

After the murder, "the situation in the village remains tense," residents of the Goor-Khindakh village reported.

"Everyone still has been shocked, and we are very much afraid for our children. We do not let them out anywhere too often," the villagers said.
