Yerevan residents: exhibition "Eclipse" destroys historical stereotypes

On November 28, the exhibition "Eclipse" about victims of Stalinist repressions, closed by the decision of the Armenian Ministry of Culture, was opened in the Yerevan private gallery "Sarkis Muradyan". The information from the exhibition can change the attitude towards the history of Armenia, its visitors believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 4, the exhibition "Eclipse" was opened in the Hovhannes Tumanyan House Museum in Yerevan, and on September 9, it was closed. According to Arev Samuelyan, Armenian Deputy Minister of Culture, the exhibition was closed because of its "political nature."

The exposition is dedicated to the sons of classicist writer Hovhannes Tumanyan, one of whom fell victim to the Turkish repressions in 1918, and three others to the Stalinist repressions in 1938.

Visitors of the exhibition see its value in the information which is able to give an objective assessment of historical events in the era of the USSR.

The public wants to learn the historical truth about the activities of Armenian Bolsheviks, said Vladimir Arutyunyan, the author of the book "Anti-State Activities of the Armenian Bolsheviks in 1919-1920".

According to artist Zaruhi Muradyan, a founder of the gallery "Sarkis Muradyan", the older generation "brought up on the Soviet lie" is obliged to show the younger generation "the bloody pages of the past."
