Court extends detention of Suleiman Kerimov for other 24 hours

In the evening on November 21, the detention of Russian senator from Dagestan Suleiman Kerimov in Nice was extended for other 24 hours. Russian diplomats have sent a note to France with the demand to release the senator.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on November 20, Suleiman Kerimov was detained by the French police in the case of tax evasion. Suleiman Kerimov pleaded not guilty.

"Yesterday (on November 21) in the evening, the local judge extended the Suleiman Kerimov's detention for another day. We are waiting for the pronouncement of the pre-trial restriction measure. We insist on release," said Konstantin Kosachev, the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, as quoted by the TASS.

Russian diplomats have handed over the necessary notes to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Élysée Palace with the demand to release the Russian senator.

"The Russian side demands to release Suleiman Kerimov, since he is a senator and he enjoys immunity as a senator," reported a source familiar with the situation.
