Dagestani truck drivers report termination of money extortion on border with Azerbaijan

At the border between Dagestan and Azerbaijan, the situation with the passage of customs control has improved markedly after the protests of truck drivers. This was reported by truck drivers questioned by the "Caucasian Knot". According to them, the lines of heavy trucks on the border disappeared, and officials stopped to demand money.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 31, during a protest action at a customs station on the border between Dagestan and Azerbaijan, truck drivers complained about extortion of money and insulting treatment. Meanwhile, according to the truck drivers, about 200 heavy trucks stayed at the border in a line for customs clearance.

After the protest action, customs officers started to pass the trucks a little faster, and the line of heavy trucks at the Azerbaijani border completely disappeared. This was told on November 7 to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Magomed Kuramagomedov, the deputy of the Dagestani Union of Carriers.

Truck driver Shamil Alikhanov associates the positive changes in the operation of the customs checkpoint "Yarag-Kazmalyar" with a commission which members came there to carry out an inspection.

"The rally also made a noise ... Video records proving rude unacceptable behaviour of customs officers were also disseminated in the Internet. Apparently, a commission came to them because of all that. We could not find out who they were ... However, after their arrival, the situation on the border improved a lot. Let's see what will happen after their departure," Shamil Alikhanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
