Turkish ophthalmologists operate on 120 people in Chechnya

During their five-day stay in Grozny, ophthalmologists from Turkey consulted more than a thousand people and made surgeries, the spokesman of the Chechen Ministry of Public Health has reported today. Local residents explained their desire to get to the Turkish doctors by the high quality of medical care and free-of-charge operation.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Turkish doctors arrived in Grozny on October 30 within the agreement reached by the Chechen Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy, Public Health and Sports with the public organization "Doctors of the Planet".

"During their five days in Grozny, the Turkish specialists have operated on 120 patients suffering from various eye diseases; all the surgeries were made completely free of charge," an employee of the Chechen Ministry of Public Health told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The local residents, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, explained their intention to be treated by the Turkish doctors by the lack of necessary qualification in the majority of Chechen ophthalmologists and by the possibility to receive free treatment.

"There were quite a lot of people; literally all the hospital corridors were packed; people had to wait for hours, but it was worth it. Many just hate to contact local doctors as don't trust their professionalism and experience. We can say that we have just a few good ophthalmologists here," a resident of Chechnya named Khamzat A. told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.
