BMC refused to hear case about Gasanli’s conscription

The Baku Military Court (BMC) has offered the defence of Ulvi Gasanli, the leader of the “Nida” movement, to complain to the Military Prosecutor's Office about the activist’s enforcement to the army, but refused to consider the case, Zibeida Sadygova, a Gasanli's advocate, has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 26, Ulvi Gasanli was sent to serve his term in the military unit in the front area. According to the “Nida”, Gasanli has a postponement from the army in connection with his kidney disease and rheumatism. His defence has appealed against the compulsory sending the “Nida” activist to the army.

The army service is notable for physical loads; therefore, conscripts who have health problems are given a conscription postponement, or they are not recruited at all, said Yalchin Imanov, a lawyer.

Ulvi Gasanli is one of the brightest youth leaders of the last five or six years, said Samir Kazymly, the coordinator of the Alliance for the Protection of Political Freedoms.
