Causes of deaths of Dubrovka terror act victims remain unknown for 15 years

Today, people mark the 15th anniversary of the tragedy when the Dubrovka Theatre Centre was captured by militants. Despite the requests voiced by the victims, a lot of details surrounding the circumstances of the tragedy have not yet been made public.

On October 23, 2002, during the musical "Nord-Ost", militants took 916 people hostage with the demand to stop combat actions in Chechnya. Three days later, during the assault of the building, at least 130 people were killed, and more than 700 others were injured. Relatives and friends of the victims demand from the authorities to answer questions concerning what kind of gas and on whose order was used during the assault and why no competent evacuation was organized and no medical assistance was provided to the victims.

On October 26, on the 15th anniversary of the assault, a mourning service and requiem concert will be held in Moscow. This has been reported today by Sergey Karpov, the chairman of the regional public organization "Nord-Ost".

According to him, he "strongly doubts" that on the 15th anniversary of the tragedy, the people will get answers to the questions "to which no one from the authorities or the secret services has ever responded," the "Kommersant" reports today.

On August 29, Igor Zuber, an advocate of the victims, claimed the rights of his clients still remained violated. "The survivors do not know of what they are being treated, how long they have to be treated, what medical treatment to choose, who poisoned them, and by what kind of gas," the advocate said. He also noted the victims suffered "colossal harm," so it was important to identify the persons responsible for the use of the gas, for the deaths of people and the infliction of damage to the health of the hostages.
