NGOs: pre-election campaign in Georgia passes without criticism in media

In Georgia, NGOs have released the data on monitoring carried out by the media, which covered the pre-election campaign. TV Channels showed only a small number of critical discussions, reported Nana Dzvelishvili, a member of the "Charter of Journalistic Ethics". Promises of politicians in the media are not analyzed by journalists, noted Giorgi Djologua, a member of the NGO "Institute of Civil Development".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the municipal elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 21.

On October 19, a press conference was held to gather participants of media monitoring covering the course of the pre-election campaign in Georgia. The monitoring was carried out by NGO "Charter of Journalistic Ethics" and NGO "Institute of Civil Development" with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The media monitoring recorded general improvement in the quality of the pre-election activities in the Georgian media in comparison with the previous years, reported the participants of the press conference.

However, Giorgi Djologua, a member of the "Institute of Civil Development", has noted the excessive advertising in newspapers and online media.

According to the NGO "Transparency International-Georgia", in the course of the preparation for the elections in Georgia, the NGO registered cases of using administrative resource and agitating for the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party in social networks.
