Chechen law enforcers point to impunity of commanders for mass cases of extortion

Law enforcers have complained that in Chechnya, commanders of law enforcement units regularly and with impunity withhold some money from salaries of their subordinates. Law enforcers should file complaints to the Prosecutor's Office and do not remain silent during inspections. This has been emphasized by advocate Anton Scherbak.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported with reference to a source from the law enforcement agencies that a commander of a regiment at the National Guard of Russia was beaten and dismissed from his post in Chechnya after complaints of his subordinates of deductions from their salaries.

According to an officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya, in particular, "every month, a part of each employee's salary is withheld."

In Chechnya, the system of extortion "exists for a long time," noted Aslambek, a Grozny resident.

The Chechen Department of the National Guard of Russia continues to deny dismissal of a regiment commander after complaints about extortion.

Relatives of fighters from the law enforcement agencies in Chechnya have applied to the human rights organization "Soldiers' Mothers from Saint Petersburg" with complaints of unofficial deductions from salaries. This was reported by lawyer Anton Scherbak, a coordinator for the protection of the rights of soldiers and officers under the organization "Soldiers' Mothers from Saint Petersburg".

According to the Anton Scherbak's version, law enforcers are "afraid to tell the truth to the supervisory bodies for fear of losing their jobs." Meanwhile, reports of violations come to the organization not only from the republics of Northern Caucasus, but also from all over Russia.

Residents of Chechnya also complained of deductions from salaries of doctors, policemen, and teachers.
