A new carpet for ancient Juma Mosque delivered to Derbent

A carpet with an area of 1300 square meters, made especially for the Derbent Mosque, will replace the current covering of 1500 carpets.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by an attendant of the Seyid Yahya Mosque that a new carpet for the Cathedral Juma Mosque has already been delivered to the Mosque.

Till present, the carpet covering of the Mosque consists of 1569 carpet products of different sizes and designs, donated by mosque-goers. The new carpet has been donated by philanthropist Ziyavudin Magomedov, the chairman for the board of directors of the "Summa" Group.

The Cathedral Juma Mosque of Derbent is one of the oldest in the world and the oldest mosque in the entire post-Soviet space. It was built in 733, and its area is 1300 square meters.

On May 30, Ziyavudin Magomedov came to Derbent to take part in the contest of innovative project organized by the business incubator "PERI Innovation Challenge". While visiting the Juma Mosque, he expressed a desire to donate to it a new carpet covering, reported the press service of the "Summa" Group.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported about other projects of the Ziyavudin Magomedov's Charitable Foundation "Peri". In April, the spring school of Derbent research was opened on the base of the complex "House of Peter I". In May, a laboratory for restoration of manuscripts was opened at the Institute for History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Dagestan Scientific Centre under the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
