Wine Festival in Nagorno-Karabakh attracts many tourists

On September 16, 12 companies from Armenia, 11 companies from Nagorno-Karabakh and 10 private winemakers, as well as agricultural producers, took part in the Fourth Wine Festival held in the village of Tog, Gadrut District. The organizers hoped for 2500 visitors, but they had much more of them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the third such festival, held in the same village on September 17, 2016, attracted 15 companies.

"Tourists from Armenia, Belarus, Italy and other European countries have arrived," said Artak Grigoryan, the programme manager of the tourism department at the Nagorno-Karabakh’s Ministry of Economy.

In his opinion, the festival has become popular and attractive for tourists.

"The festival has two goals: to attract more tourists and to allow entrepreneurs and private agrarians to sell their products," said Sergey Shakhverdyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of Nagorno Karabakh.

He has added that this year the Nagorno-Karabakh’s tourist sector has fixed some growth, although in 2016, because of the April war, the flow of tourists went down. Thus, "the estimated income from tourism for the first half of 2017 exceeded 3.5 million US dollars, that is, the growth made 35%."

Sofia Pons, a tourist from France, has expressed an opinion that the Nagorno-Karabakh’s wine "deserves to be in the world market."
