Unique dolmen restored in Adygea

Archaeologists have restored a four-thousand-year-old dolmen, destroyed in the Maikop District. According to scientists, the police failed to confirm the fact of vandalism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 19, 2016, it became known about the destruction of the dolmen "Hadjokh-4", restored in 2015, located in the Maikop District.

Dolmens are structures built of large stone blocks. There are about 3000 of them in the Caucasus, erected in late 3rd-2nd millenniums BC. According to scientists, dolmens could be cult or funerary structures. According to the website "Culture of the Russian Federation", they are older than Egyptian pyramids.

Archaeologists and activists of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society have restored the dolmen, said Igor Ogai, the head of the Adygean branch of the Society.
