118 relatives of disappeared Chechen residents get genetic passports

On August 30, in Grozny, genetic passports were handed over to 118 residents of Chechnya, whose relatives disappeared during the combat action in the republic.

There are still no reliable data on the number of residents of Chechnya, who disappeared or were kidnapped during the combat actions. At present, the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya includes 3016 people. However, residents of Chechnya believe during the two military campaigns, at least 15,000-20,000 people disappeared or were kidnapped.

On August 30, the ceremony to hand over genetic passports was held at the Press House in Grozny. The event was timed to the International Day of the Disappeared, marked on that day.

"In total, genetic passports were handed over to 118 relatives of the people disappeared and kidnapped during the combat actions in the territory of the Chechen Republic," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Chechen Ministry for National Policy, Information and Press.

According to the official, Alexander Mukomolov, the head of the General Lebed Peacekeeping Mission, handed over a death certificate to relatives of Khanpasha Tovbulatov, who disappeared in Grozny in December 1994.

"A genetic passport helped to reveal the fate of Khanpasha Tovbulatov, who disappeared on December 31, 1994. It was found out that he was killed near the republican hospital in Grozny, and then he was buried at the Bogorodskoe cemetery in Moscow. In the near future, the remains of Khanpasha Tovbulatov will be transported to the republic and buried in his native village," noted the official from the Chechen Ministry for National Policy, Information and Press.
