Convicted activist reports threats in Azerbaijani colony

One of colony bosses threatened to kill Ilkin Rustamzade, an activist of the “Nida” movement, for criticizing Azerbaijani authorities, Ilkin’s mother has reported after visiting her son. The penitentiary service has treated the inmate’s words as "absurd".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 6, 2014, the court sentenced eight “Nida” activists, including Ilkin Rustamzade, to six-eight years in prison on charges of organizing mass riots. None of the convicts then pleaded guilty.

Atlas Guseinova, Ilkin's mother, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about her today’s visit of the colony, "The situation there is not good. The new deputy head of the colony... threatened Ilkin with execution for his criticizing the country's leadership."

According to her story, the boss told her son, "You’ll see what I do with you. I know how to re-educate you."

In his turn, an employee of the public relations division of the Azerbaijani Penitentiary Service has refuted the version about threats addressed to Rustamzade.
