ECtHR accepts complaint about arrest of Armenian activist Karo Egnukyan

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has agreed to consider, as a matter of priority, the complaint about the arrest of the Armenian activist Karo Egnukyan, accused of assisting the “Sasna Tsrer” detachment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Karo Egnukyan, a member of the "Constituent Parliament", was arrested on charges of aiding the rebels of the detachment, who captured the building of the police patrol-and-post service (PPS) regiment in Yerevan. On July 18, near the building, policemen detained nine opposition supporters, including Egnukyan, who wrote on his poster: "There is no other way out."

Egnukyan went on a hunger strike protesting against his arrest, but the court refused to release him on bail.

Karo Egnukyan treats his arrest as unlawful. Today, his advocate Tigran Airapetyan has reported that the ECtHR had accepted the complaint to consideration.
