Son of editor-in-chief of Georgian "Chronicle+" released on bail

The court has released David Kharshiladze, a son of Eliso Kiladze, the editor-in-chief of the Tbilisi newspaper "Chronicle+", on bail of 6300 US dollars.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that David Kharshiladze was detained on March 13.

He is suspected of drug possession. However, Eliso Kiladze, his mother and the editor-in-chief of the "Chronicle+", asserts that the drugs were planted by policemen, and her son's persecution has to do with the critical position of the newspaper in relation to the authorities.

On March 15, the office of the Georgia's People Defender (Ombudsperson) treated the policemen's behaviour towards Kharshiladze during detention as "cynical and humiliating."

The General Inspectorate of the Georgia's MIA and the Tbilisi Prosecutor's Office have begun checking the circumstances of Kharshiladze's detention, the "Georgia Online" reports.
