"Novaya Gazeta": in Chechnya, 27 people executed overnight without trial

In Chechnya, at least 27 detainees were executed at night on January 26. The decision on extrajudicial execution was made "spontaneously from the above." This was written by journalist Elena Milashina in her article published by the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 17, 2016, in Grozny, militants attacked policemen, and then a large-scale special operation was carried out which resulted in killing of seven militants.

According to the article, before the execution, people were kept in the territory of deployment of the patrol-and-post service regiment. The "Novaya Gazeta" lists the names of the deceased people with reference to a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

Editors of the "Novaya Gazeta" cannot claim whether the "unprecedented large-scale extrajudicial execution" occurred at night on January 26. "However, we can insist on institution of a criminal investigation to verify those facts," the journalist notes.

Let us remind you that the relatives of the people missing after detention reported they had to hide because of fear for blood feud from family members of killed policemen.
