Opposition claims Abkhazian leaders' inability to develop state on full scale

About 900 participants of the 9th congress of the political party "Amtsakhara", dedicated to the socio-political and criminal situation in the country, have claimed that the leaders of Abkhazia are not able to achieve national harmony and full-fledged development of the state. Experts treated the opposition's tactics and statements as irrelevant.

The congress was held in Sukhumi on June 29. In particular, Alexander Ankvab, the former president of Abkhazia, delivered his speech at the congress, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The opposition has called on the authorities to enhance the fight against crimes, including murders, rapes, and illegal drug trafficking. The oppositionists have also demanded to re-consider a "passport issue" urgent for residents of the eastern regions of Abkhazia and threatened to withdraw from the agreement on stabilization of the socio-political situation in the country, signed jointly with the authorities on December 19, 2016.

According to journalist Anton Krivenyuk, the congress showed the ideological helplessness of the opposition.

Political analyst Nikolai Silaev believes that the opposition has a political perspective, "but it needs a substantive discussion, not street protests."

According to Sergey Shamba, the chairman of the "United Abkhazia" Party, Abkhazia faces two dangers: the dissolution of the Abkhazian ethnos and the emergence of ethnic radicalism.

MP Raul Lolua, the former Minister of Internal Affairs, has claimed that at present, "out of 400 crimes, only 20 are brought to court," and blamed the authorities for that fact.
