EU allocates two million euros to Armenia for development of public sector

The development programme of Armenian public organizations with the financial support of the European Union (EU) is aimed at strengthening the country's civil society, the programme initiators have reported.

On June 26, at a press conference in Yerevan, Pyotr Svitalskiy, the EU Ambassador, said that two million euros had been allocated for strengthening the republic's civil society organizations (CSOs) within the programme BRIDGE for CSOs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

According to Mr Svitalskiy, the countries CSOs are very active; and this is a positive trend.

"Armenia operates over 4000 CSOs and about 5000 funds; this is a huge potential. Armenia can be proud of this activeness of the civil society," he said, adding that the programme "will promote the strengthening of ties of CSOs of Armenia and Diaspora."

The three-year programme BRIDGE for CSOs is implemented on the initiative of the AGBU (Armenian General Benevolent Union) with the financial support of the EU.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Armenia, despite its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), is also actively cooperating with the EU.
