Both killed men were suspected members of the armed underground in Dagestan.

Attacks on law enforcers

On June 25, in Khasavyurt, two men were killed by a policeman during a shootout. According to law enforcers, the men rendered armed resistance when the policemen tried to detain them. According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, the killed men were militants. They have been "already identified, but their names are not disclosed in the interest of the investigation."

Bombings and terror acts

At about 3:00 a.m. Moscow time on June 19, in Amet-Khan Sultan Avenue in Makhachkala, an unidentified man threw three grenades into a yard of a policeman's house and then fled the place of the incident in a car. Together with grenades, the man threw into the yard a note with threats. Two grenades exploded, but no one was injured. Meanwhile, it was initially reported that the unidentified criminal attacked the house of Rustam Abdurakhmanov, the former chief of the Buynaksk ROVD (District Interior Division). However, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Dagestan did not confirm the above information.

Detentions

On June 21, in Urus-Martan, special services agents detained Rasambek Bekmurzaev, a 37-year-old resident of Chechnya, suspected of killing three law enforcers in the Urus-Martan market in October 2000. According to investigators, after he had killed three law enforcers, the suspect was admitted to a militant grouping led by Arbi Baraev, a well-known field commander, and in recent years, the suspect worked as a taxi driver in Chechnya. Meanwhile, after the detention of Rasambek Bekmurzaev, an open appeal of his wife was disseminated among WhatsApp users in Chechnya. In her appeal, the woman claims her husband's innocence and asks the leader of Chechnya to help him return home.
