Chechnya announces days off on occasion of Eid al-Fitr
On the occasion of the end of the Ramadan fasting, the authorities of Chechnya have announced the days of June 26, 27 and 28 as days off. However, the exact date for the completion of the month of Ramadan has not yet been set up.
"The end of the month of Ramadan will be set up in the evening of June 24. If there is a new moon in the sky, then the first day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday will set up on Sunday [June 25]. Otherwise, the Eid al-Fitr holiday will starts on Monday [June 26]," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) for Chechnya.
Residents of the region have expressed their concern to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by the fact that theologians did not set up the date for the first day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
"In fact, such uncertainty with the end date of Ramadan is a serious problem. People actively buy food now, and some items, for example, fruits, are to be bought on the last day before the holiday in order not to be spoiled. Meanwhile, at our place, as a usual, the day of the holiday has not yet been set up," said Kheda, a woman from Grozny.
"It seems that nothing is easier with the definition of this date. It is enough to count the time period from the first day of the beginning of the fasting or to find out what day is considered to be the last day of Ramadan in Muslim countries. However, at our place, something should differ from the other places. We are to wait until the last, and only late at night, they may report that tomorrow morning will be the first day of the holiday," said Malika, a local resident.
