Sukhumi resident loses his leg after explosion in house yard

On June 19, in Sukhumi, a local resident was injured in his legs in an explosion in a yard of a five-storey building in Kalmykov Street. He was hospitalized to the Abkhazian Republican Hospital.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office of Abkhazia, an explosive device was remotely launched in Kalmykov Street. "The design of the explosive device included destructive elements in the form of metal bearings," reports the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Abkhazia as quoted today by the "Sputnik Abkhazia".

As a result of the explosion, Ruslan Argun, born in 1974, was injured. "He underwent surgery at the Republican Hospital, and his left leg was amputated," reported the General Prosecutor's Office of Abkhazia.

According to Georgy Voub, the deputy chief physician of the Republican Hospital, the patient also got second-degree burns to his legs, up to 25% of skin area. There is no life threat, and the patient's condition is stable.

Today, Ruslan Tyrkba, Prosecutor of the City of Sukhumi, has reported that the Prosecutor's Office of Sukhumi has instituted a criminal case against Ruslan Argun, a veteran of the Patriotic War of 1992-1993.
