Investigator fails to specify charge in publicist Rizvan Ibragimov's case

On June 13, at the trial in Rizvan Ibragimov's case, the court questioned an investigator in charge for the case against the publicist accused of extremism. The witness could not clarify the essence of the charge.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2016, Rizvan Ibragimov's books were recognized as extremist. A criminal case was instituted against the publicist on the charge of inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliating human dignity. Rizvan Ibragimov claimed that in April 2016, he was kidnapped by law enforcers and subjected to torture with electric current.

On his page in Facebook, Rizvan Ibragimov reported that at the trial, the investigator claimed the disappearance of the books seized during the investigation. When asked where the seized books representing physical evidence were, the investigator failed to answer.

Besides, the publicist has also reported the motives for writing the books, which became the subject of consideration in court. According to Rizvan Ibragimov, he is not a professional historian and only recently he took up the history of the Chechen people. However, he always wondered why his people experienced so much suffering. The publicist mentioned the deportation of the Chechen people during World War II and two wars on the border of the 1990s-2000s.

"In 2009, a book came into my hands which forced me to quit my business and start researching the history of the Chechen people," said Rizvan Ibragimov. He has noted that he studied in detail thousands of sources, including foreign ones and works of well-known scientists.
