In Armenia, participants of conference report problems with women's rights in countries of Caucasus and Middle East

Yerevan hosts the Fifth International Conference "Search for New Ways in Meeting Modern Challenges. Ways to Peace, Stories of Women Peacekeepers." The conference involves about 100 people from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, Ukraine and Russia, Colombia, Syria, Georgia, Iraq, Cyprus, and Ireland. Participants of the forum declare gender equality problem in a number of countries.

Gaida Al-Odat, a native of Syria, one of the participants of the conference, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she was granted political asylum in Switzerland, but she continues to work with residents of her country by informing them of their rights. Gaida Al-Odat has noted that she is concerned over the fate of the Syrians fleeing to neighbouring countries.

"Those people are defenceless, often subjected to violence, and they do not get any assistance from the government. We know that there are a lot of serious problems in the countries bordering with Syria, but all our activities are aimed at ensuring that, despite their problems and lack of democracy, those countries would nevertheless protect the rights of refugees, especially the rights of women and children," emphasized Gaida Al-Odat.

According to her, the rights of women who are refugees from Syria are violated, but they are afraid to raise those problems.
