Georgian journalists demand from Parliament to react to Afghan Mukhtarly's kidnapping

At the Georgian Parliament, journalists have held a rally in support of Afghan Mukhtarly, an Azerbaijani journalist, who was kidnapped in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the defence of Afghan Mukhtarly requests to transfer his case to the Georgian Prosecutor's Office. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has provided protection for the journalist's family members.

The journalists on protest put black plastic bags on their heads, and in their hands, they were holding posters calling to release Afghan Mukhtarly. They decided to hold a protest action after they had got no response to a request for a meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze, Speaker of the Parliament, and Sophio Kiladze, the chair of the Human Rights Committee.

During the protest action, a dispute occurred between Sergo Ratiani, an MP from the opposition "European Georgia" Party, and MPs from the ruling "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement" Party, including Sophio Kiladze, the chair of the Human Rights Committee. The MP has demanded from the authorities to respond to the journalist's kidnapping.

"We are concerned over the fact that MPs and the chairs openly ignore the incident of the Afghan Mukhtarly's kidnapping," noted journalist Nana Biganishvili on the air of the "Rustavi 2" TV Channel.
