Family members of Afghan Mukhtarly decide to leave Georgia after his kidnapping

After the kidnapping of Afghan Mukhtarly, an Azerbaijani opposition journalist, his family members have considered further stay in Georgia to be insecure. This was stated by the journalist's wife. Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has assured that the Georgian authorities are not involved in the Afghan Mukhtarly's kidnapping.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 31, the charge of resistance to a border guard was added to the charge of violating the state border and smuggling filed against Afghan Mukhtarly. On the same day, the court in Baku pronounced the decision to arrest the journalist.

On May 31, in Tbilisi, participants of the protest action demanded from the Georgian authorities to give explanations regarding the kidnapping of Afghan Mukhtarly.

Leyla Mustafaeva together with her family members intends to leave Georgia in connection with the kidnapping of Afghan Mukhtarly, the "Interfax-Azerbaijan" reports.

In his turn, the Georgian Prime Minister has announced that in the country, no one should doubt about the protection of human rights.

"We will wait for the results of the investigation," said Giorgi Kvirikashvili as quoted by the "Sputnik-Georgia".

Let us remind you that Afghan Mukhtarly left Azerbaijan for Georgia in 2014. He claimed that he could not return to Azerbaijan, since the human rights situation had become critical there.
