Islamic Solidarity Games include competitions in two Paralympic sports

The programme of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games lists competitions in two sports among Paralympic athletes, including parajudo and track and field athletics among amputee athletes. Azerbaijani Paralympic athletes will compete in both sports.

The Islamic Solidarity Games are an international sporting event that involves the best athletes from the countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The official opening ceremony of the 4th Games was held on May 12 in Baku, and it was watched by more than 65,000 people. The programme of the Islamic Solidarity Games includes competitions in 20 sports. About 3000 athletes from all 57 countries participating in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation take part in the competition.

On May 13, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Shaig Gamidov, Vice President of the Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan, that competitions in two Paralympic sports were included in the programme of the Islamic Solidarity Games at the request of Azerbaijan as the country hosting the competitions. Shaig Gamidov noted that at the first European Games held in 2015, competitions were held only in one sport parajudo.

Azerbaijan has created good conditions for Paralympic athletes. This was reported by sports specialists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Kyamal Mamedov, a coach of children with disabilities, since 2013, in the Paralympic complex located in the city of Sumgait, there are conditions to train children with disabilities.

"Here, we have sections for children to train parajudo, paraswimming, para table tennis and bocce. The children can attend sports sections absolutely for free, at the expense of the state," said Kyamal Mamedov.

The coach has noted that sports activities allow integrating children with disabilities into society from early age.
