Arthur Panov claims being on a hunger strike for one day only

Arthur Panov, a citizen of Ukraine, accused of plotting a terror act in Rostov-on-Don, continued his dry hunger strike declared on May 3 only for one day. This has been reported by members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) for the Rostov Region after their visit to the defendant.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at a court hearing held on May 3, Arthur Panov declared the start of his indefinite dry hunger strike. He demanded to extradite him to Ukraine within two weeks.

Arthur Panov, a 19-year-old resident of the town of Krasnodon of the Lugansk Region of Ukraine, is accused of plotting a terror act.

On May 11, POC members for the Rostov Region visited Arthur Panov when they conducted a personal reception of persons kept in custody.

A staff member of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) has confirmed to POC members that the SIZO administration received a notification from the North-Caucasian District Military Court about the hunger strike announced by Arthur Panov at the courtroom. "At the SIZO-1, A. A. Panov was repeatedly questioned. He did not file any notification to the SIZO administration about the announcement of hunger strike and continued to accept food," Rostov Regional POC members have noted.

"Members of the POC for the Rostov Region have explained to Arthur Panov that his extradition to the territory of Ukraine is impossible until the verdict in his case enters into force. Therefore, such behaviour and protest actions will not contribute to the achievement of his goal," emphasizes the conclusion.
