Chechnya starts building sixth Hafiz school

In the village of Benoy of the Nozhai-Yurt District, workers have begun building a school of Hafizes (Koran reciters by heart), intended for 100 pupils. Some residents of Chechnya doubt that the republic needs six Hafiz schools.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the fifth Hafiz school was opened in Chechnya in August 2014 in the town of Argun and named after Tabarik Baisultanova, Ramzan Kadyrov's grandmother and Aimani Kadyrova's mother. On October 6, 2016, 55 out of 100 teenagers, trained there, graduated from the school ahead of schedule.

According to the spokesman of the SAM (Spiritual Administration of Muslims) of Chechnya, the funds to build the school had been allocated by the Regional Public Fund named after Akhmat Kadyrov and headed by Aimani Kadyrova, Ramzan's mother.

In the opinion of Akhyad, an employee of one of the Chechen ministries, a large number of Hafizes in Chechnya is a boon for the republic.

However, another resident of Chechnya named Salavdi doubts that the republic needs so many theologians.

Along with investments into the Hafiz school, the Chechen authorities could have paid more attention to the development of economy and social sphere, said Murad, an economist from Grozny.

In his opinion, the funds spent on religious institutions, sports facilities and entertainment centres, when being invested into economy, would have given a good impetus to the development of all the industries.
