Court releases visually impaired Sochi resident Mark Yavorsky from custody
On April 12, the Primorsko-Akhtarsky Court has decided to release Mark Yavorsky from custody, who earlier had been found guilty of involvement in a double murder.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to investigators, Mark Yavorsky was involved in the beating of two men who lived on the territory of an abandoned sanatorium in Sochi, as a result of which they died. On August 19, 2016, the court sentenced Mark Yavorsky to 8 years of imprisonment, and on February 17, 2017, the Regional Court reduced the sentence to 7.5 years of imprisonment.
The investigators believe that Mark Yavorsky committed a murder, since the victims tried to rape his girlfriend. According to the defence, when the young man with his girlfriend left the territory of the sanatorium, all the people involved to the conflict were alive, and that fact was confirmed by records from surveillance cameras. Besides, the defence also insists that prosecution witnesses three other men living in the sanatorium's territory directly participated in the beatings, but avoided responsibility due to their testimonies against Mark Yavorsky.
The Court's decision will come into force after 10 days. Mark Yavorsky will be released, and on April 22, he will return home to Sochi. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Alim Taukenov, an advocate of Mark Yavorsky.
Let us remind you that on April 11, the Prosecutor's Office informed Oksana Yavorskaya, the mother of Mark Yavorsky, on submission to the Presidium of the Court of the KrasnodarTerritorya request to change the verdict in the case of the double murder. The consideration is scheduled for April 26.
"After his release from custody, Mark will be able to participate in the trial and express his position concerning the charge of the crime he never committed. I hope that at liberty, the morale of the young man who suffered so much in custody, being torn from his family members and friends, will be restored, and with the help of the Prosecutor's Office, we will be able to defend the right to his good name," said Alim Taukenov, the advocate of Mark Yavorsky.
