CEC: at 27 polling stations, voters support renaming of South Ossetia

According to the results of the processing of 35 percent of the protocols for the renaming of South Ossetia to the State of Alania, 78.2 percent of voters cane to the referendum.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 9, South Ossetia held the presidential election and the referendum on the renaming of the republic to Alania. The referendum has provoked an aggravation of disputes concerning which of the Caucasian republics has the right to be considered the heir to historical Alania.

Bella Plieva, Chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of South Ossetia, has reported that according to the preliminary data from 27 out of 77 polling stations, 78.2% of voters gave their voices in favour of the renaming of South Ossetia to the State of Alania. 21.8% of referendum participants opposed the renaming, the "TASS" reports.
