Activist Nikolai Tavleev complains about beating during his detention in Kalmykia

The Elista Magistrate Court has pronounced the decision to release Nikolai Tavleev, a participant of the anti-corruption picket. Nikolai Tavleev has claimed that he was beaten during his detention.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported with reference to Batyr Boromangnaev, the chairman of the Kalmyk branch of the "Yabloko" Party, that on April 3, 62-year-old Nikolai Tavleev was detained in the village of Arshan by law enforcers who refused to present their IDs.

The activist's wife has reported that after his detention, Nikolai Tavleev was brought to one of the police stations of Kalmykia. According to the woman, her husband has managed to contact her and report that he "can be forced to refuse to participate in pickets." Meanwhile, on duty policemen from the Department for Elista of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) denied the information about the detention of the picketer.

Igor Koldunov, an advocate of Nikolai Tavleev, has reported that two administrative materials were drawn up against his client for refusing to be inspected.

Batyr Boromangnaev has also added that Nikolai Tavleev "intends to file a claim against law enforcers." "Nikolai Tavleev has got physical injuries... Besides, inspectors of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) arrested his car. And his weapon seized on January 31 has not been yet returned to him," said Batyr Boromangnaev.

According to Nikolai Tavleev himself, on March 26, he went to a solo anti-corruption picket with a poster in his hand reading: "He is not Dimon."

Nikolai Tavleev has also noted that, he refused to undergo an examination at a neurological dispensary at the request of the DPS inspectors.
