South of Dagestan cleaned from militants and their accomplices - Republic's Minister of Internal Affairs

In 2016, law enforcers carried out more than 30 special operations in Dagestan, during which 17 militant leaders were killed. This was reported by Abdurashid Magomedov, Dagestani Minister of Internal Affairs. According to him, all the southern regions of the republic are "cleaned of militants."

In total, according to the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on data from own correspondents and information from open sources, in 2016, in Dagestan, at least 204 people fell victim to the conflict. Of them, 140 people were killed and 64 others were wounded. In 2015, 153 people fell victim to the conflict. Thus, in 2016, in comparison with 2015, the total number of victims to the conflict increased by more than 33%.

In 2016, in Dagestan, the police, together with staff members of other law enforcement bodies, carried out more than 30 counterterrorist operations (CTOs) in three cities and 19 districts. In the course of those special operations, "four criminal groupings and 17 militant leaders" were liquidated. This has been reported today by Abdurashid Magomedov, Dagestani Minister of Internal Affairs, at a session of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan.

According to the Minister, 80 hidings with weapons and foodstuffs, 22 dugouts and militant camps were discovered and destroyed. Furthermore, law enforcers "actually cleared all the southern districts of Dagestan of militants and their accomplices," the "Interfax-Yug" reports.

Besides, the Dagestani Minister of Internal Affairs has also stated that the armed underground operating in Dagestan includes up to 30 people.
